empirica at MEDICA 2019

On November 16-19 2019, MEDICA, the yearly leading international trade fair for medical technology, took place in Düsseldorf again. empirica participated in the Health IT Forum organised in the context of the fair. The theme addressed this year was “Defining the Future of Digital Health”.

Wednesday, 20 November, was all about “Digitisation in health without borders: Digital health in Europe”. The talks were hosted by ZTG Centre for eHealth and Telemedicine, German Telemedicine Association in cooperation with the Ministry for Labour, Health and Social Affairs of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (MAGS NRW).

During the session “Stepwise towards meaningful data: EU-wide approaches”, Daniel Schmidtmann presented on behalf of empirica, the work carried out in DigitalHealthEurope (DHE), a Horizon2020 project that provides comprehensive, integrated and centralised support to the Digital Health and Care Innovation initiative in the context of the Digital Single Market Strategy. DHE is led by empirica in consortium with 16 other partners from 10 European countries.

The project’s approach involves several actions that will boost innovation and advance the Digital Single Market priorities for the digital transformation of health and care (DTHC), as outlined in the European Commission’s 2018 Communication on the topic. The priorities concern:

  • citizens’ secure access to and sharing of health data across borders
  • better data to advance research, disease prevention and personalised health and care
  • digital tools for citizen empowerment and person-centred care.
