Progress of the Energy Data Innovation Network

The Energy Data Innovation Network (EDI-Net) project has been advancing in its first year with activities around the development of a system enabling public authorities in Europe to analyse short time series metered energy and water data from public buildings, from renewable energy systems and from building energy management systems (BEMNS) in order to reduce energy consumption and to save money.

Leicester City Council (UK), City of Nuremburg (Germany) and the region of Catalunya (Spain), have just completed a trial of a new system developed within the framework of the EU-funded initiative and are ready to share their experience and expertise with 20 more local authorities interested in joining the initiative. These new pilot municipalities will not only be able to use the EDI-Net system free of charge, they will also get access to a special online forum, a customised dashboard, a helpdesk and free training workshops. To be eligible, local authorities (local decision makers, financial planners, energy and climate managers) must be able to provide sub-hourly energy consumption.

Apart from the free training workshops planned with the pilot municipalities, empirica is supporting EDI-Net in building capacity by providing training and support materials as part of a comprehensive guidance framework. Pilot municipalities will have access to an online training guide complete with useful resources which they can apply directly. The materials are based on the solid experience of empirica with previous EU-funded projects eSesh, BECA and SMARTSPACES, and build on the knowledge of the Leicester, Nuremburg and Catalunya pilots.

Interested public authorities in Europe are encouraged to apply to benefit from the EDI-Net services and support by filling in an online form available here.
