EULinksChecker, developed by the EUCases project, shortlisted for Innovation Radar Prize 2016

EUCases reused the millions of legal documents from EU and national legislative and case law portals, as well as open access doctrinal work. The components developed cover the entire publication stack: We collected the data from institutional portals, enriched them using partner’s or open source language technologies and ontologies, and published the documents as linked open data in XML, with metadata and legal ontologies in RDF, to facilitate access, navigation, multilingual search and reuse. The web based EUCases Linking Platform covers legislative acts and court decisions of six EU member states: Austria, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Italy and United Kingdom. The project has provided the ground for the successful launch of a commercial product, EuroCases by Apis Hristovich Ltd., a novel multilingual web-based legal information service providing access to case law of the leading jurisdictions in Europe related to the application of European Union law. One of the components developed in EUCases, the EULinksChecker, has just been short-listed for the European Commission’s Innovation Radar Prize 2016. The EULinksChecker Add-in Tools for Microsoft Word, Open Office Writer, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome, assists legal professionals during the process of drafting or viewing on the Internet legal documents related to EU law by offering them convenient features for performing legal research based on legal citations or other semantic connections of the drafted/viewed documents with EU legislation and case law. Innovation Radar is an initiative of the European Commission focused on the identification of high potential innovations and the key innovators behind them in EU research programmes.
