Proposals for a quality label for industry-based training and certifications have been developed under a European Commission service contract. The focus is on the acquisition and the development of e-skills for ICT practitioners. It was presented at a European event attended by more than 200 experts on 24 January 2013 in Brussels.
Consensus emerged at the event that a widely-accepted quality label could help bring a new degree of focus to filling the impending skills gap. It would be based on the European e-Competence Framework (e-CF) developed by the European Committee on Standardisation (CEN), and together with an online self-assessment tool (a prototype is available here: www.eskillslandscape.eu) would offer guidance in a complex ICT certification landscape, aiding the development of clear career pathways in ICT and bringing a new and sharper profile to ICT professionals.
